Ethical Reflection on Ready Player One
According
to the next quotations:
Morrow wrote in his autobiography that he’d left GSS because ... he felt that the OASIS had evolved into something horrible. “It had become a self-imposed prison for humanity,” he wrote. “A pleasant place for the world to hide from its problems while human civilization slowly collapses, primarily due to neglect.” (p. 120)
(Halliday speaking) “I created the OASIS because I never felt at home in the real world. I didn’t know how to connect with people there. I was afraid, for all of my life. Right up until I knew it was ending. That was when I realized, as terrifying and painful as reality can be, it’s also the only place where you can find true happiness. Because reality is real.” (p. 364)
In my
opinion one supports the other. To be more specific is that everyone needs some
place or space where we can escape from reality, but if we use more than we
require it will become in our own prison. Nevertheless, this “space” needs to
be real like a hobby or a place because it is more beneficial for our
psychological integrity; in my case I used dancing to forget about all the
things that concerns me.
Oasis can
be useful for some important things, like it is used for giving education to
students, no matter where they are. Also, it would be useful for work, making
the conferences more didactics. Similarly talking about prison, a system like
OASIS might be ideal for that, like some countries keep away their prisoners.
I think
that if we had a system like OASIS our system would not be affected because our
culture is more united, the system only will be used when it is needed. But
something that is real is that social network or videogames are like OASIS. The
generation of this time consumed many time in this type of entertainment and it
is not productive.
For me this
idea of dystopic “real world” is interesting specially in the case of The Hunger Games or Divergent I think that if we continue destroying the world without giving
solutions the unique solution would be to ration the provisions and working in districts
like those books.
Say that if
it’s possible to have something like the OASIS by the years 2040 or 2050 it’s
like the movie Back to the Future, clearly,
we are in progress with virtual reality, like Kinect or Oculus Rift, I can
admit or demonstrate something like that but maybe is our future.
Maybe to
construct a virtual world we can use two architecture design: Prototype and Observer pattern. Both will be useful, the first one is to create
the avatars of the game and the second to connect every user.
Finally, this
book is an interesting reading, because the principal character has his own personality.
I really like it
